Flint Public Library to host bilingual book parade kickoff with tribute to Gabriel García Márquez

FLINT, MI – The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library is set to host a captivating event on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., featuring El Ballet Folklórico Estudiantil in celebration of the renowned Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez.

This event, marking the commencement of the Children’s Bilingual Book Parade series, will delve into Márquez’s fantastical realm through the children’s book “My Name is Gabito/Me Llamo Gabito” by Monica Brown.

Attendees will be transported into García Márquez’s unique blend of reality and imagination, with activities designed to pay homage to his exceptional talent. The event promises a vibrant cultural experience featuring live music, creative crafts, delectable cuisine, and traditional games. Maestro Lorenzo Lopez will also provide instruction in “La Cumbia,” a traditional Colombian dance, offering participants a hands-on cultural immersion.

Children’s Bilingual Book Parade

The Children’s Bilingual Book Parade at the Flint Public Library is a series of free educational events presented by El Ballet Folklórico Estudiantil, dedicated to celebrating Hispanic culture and promoting literacy. Following the August 17th kickoff, the series will continue with events celebrating “La Llorona” on October 26, “Azúcar” on January 4, and “My Tata’s Guitar” on April 26.
