FLINT – Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) announced a significant boost for Flint Bishop International Airport with the awarding of a $1,996,553 federal grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. This funding, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Kildee helped pass and which has the backing of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, will facilitate crucial upgrades at the airport.

The grant will be utilized to modernize the airport’s terminal with new gate counters, ticket counters, and information displays. Additionally, the funding will support the construction of a new 6,000-foot service road and the addition of a new taxilane. These improvements are expected to enhance the overall travel experience and operational efficiency of the airport.

“By upgrading our local airports, we can better connect Michigan families to destinations around the globe and support our small businesses in shipping their products worldwide,” Kildee said. “I am proud to announce this federal grant to revitalize Flint Bishop International Airport. I will continue to advocate for federal resources to support infrastructure projects like these, which create good-paying jobs for Michiganders.”

Nino Sapone, Chief Executive Officer of Flint Bishop International Airport, expressed gratitude for Kildee’s ongoing support. “Flint Bishop Airport is crucial to the economic growth of Michigan’s 8th District and the surrounding region. This grant will significantly enhance the travel experience for our passengers and contribute to the airport’s continued development.”

Kildee has been a strong advocate for improving Bishop International Airport. In 2022, he secured over $3 million in funding for terminal roof repairs. For Fiscal Year 2025, Kildee has requested an additional $4.5 million in Community Project Funding to address further safety and accessibility improvements at the airport.
