SAGINAW, MI — Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) have announced a new partnership aimed at streamlining the process for students to transition from an associate’s degree to a bachelor’s degree. The cooperative agreement, signed on August 8 by Delta College President Michael Gavin and SVSU President George Grant Jr., is designed to enhance degree completion and ease the path for students pursuing higher education.

The agreement will create clear pathways for Delta College students to earn their associate’s degree and then seamlessly transfer to SVSU to pursue a bachelor’s degree. This initiative is part of Delta College’s strategic plan, “The Way Forward,” which emphasizes student success and degree attainment.

“As part of Delta College’s strategic plan, The Way Forward, we are committed to ensuring that our students not only complete their degrees but also succeed after graduation,” said Michael Gavin. “This partnership will help our graduates obtain a bachelor’s degree without losing credits, time, or money, effectively removing barriers that often hinder students from reaching their goals.”

Saginaw Valley State University has a strong track record of welcoming transfer students from Delta College, more so than any other institution. “This new agreement will further expand those opportunities for students,” noted George Grant Jr., SVSU President. “By collaborating, we are enhancing the quality of postsecondary education available to our community.”

The partnership will also improve the reverse transfer process. Students who transfer to SVSU before completing their associate’s degree will benefit from an automatic evaluation of their completed credits. These credits will be sent back to Delta College to be assessed for potential associate degree completion.

This collaboration between Delta College and SVSU underscores both institutions’ commitment to providing accessible and efficient pathways for students to achieve their educational and career goals.
