SAGINAW, MI — Louis Manuel Rocha, a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 6, 2024, at the age of 63.
Born on October 5, 1960, to John and Paula Rocha, Louis graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1978. His professional journey began after he earned an associate degree in construction from Delta College. Louis worked as a drywall contractor at Harvey Hendrick’s before moving to Thompson Saginaw Ball & Screw as a tool maker. His career continued to evolve as he joined Delphi Chassis in their electrician apprentice program and became an active member of Local 467’s Worker-to-Worker program.
Louis made a significant impact at General Motors’ Lake Orion assembly plant, where he served as a trustee for five years, was elected UAW Vice President in 2011, and was honored to serve as UAW President from 2014 until his passing. He was also deeply involved in politics, chairing the Saginaw Democratic Party and collaborating with congress members, senators, governors, and U.S. Presidents.
Louis was known for his unwavering dedication to his family. He met his best friend, Lynn Sizick, in 1979, and they married on June 16, 1990. They had two daughters, Hayley and Vasey, who were his pride and joy. Louis was actively involved in their lives, coaching their sports teams, helping with school projects, and attending every school event. He loved camping, bike rides, bonfires, University of Michigan football, banana splits, and slushies.
Louis’ legacy is one of service, dedication, and love. His family remembers him for his selflessness and the countless ways he touched the lives of those around him.
