MIDLAND, MI – Lead (formerly Self Love Beauty) will host the Lead with STEM & Connection: Mother & Son Program on Tuesday, September 24, at the Greater Michigan Construction Academy in Midland, MI. The event, scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., will provide boys aged 6-18 and their adult female mentors with an opportunity to engage in STEM activities and strengthen their bonds.

This program is the second installment of Lead’s annual Family Programs, which aim to bring families across the Great Lakes Bay region together to explore STEM fields in a supportive and interactive environment. The initiative seeks to prepare the next generation for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) while also nurturing important family relationships.

According to the MiStem Advisory Council, 76% of Michigan adults consider STEM education crucial for securing high-paying jobs. In response, Lead has launched the ‘Lead with STEM & Connection Family Programs’ to address the need for enhanced STEM education and career exploration for young Michiganders.

Attendees can expect an engaging evening filled with activities designed to improve communication, build confidence, and explore STEM concepts. The event will feature opportunities for boys to participate in STEM activities with the support of significant women in their lives. Previous attendees have praised the event for its interactive nature, with one noting, “It was a fun, relaxed event that had us working together and communicating. When we left, my son said it was really fun and he would love to do it again.”

Stephanie Davis

The Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) is hosting the event for the fifth consecutive year. Stephanie Davis, President of GMCA, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “The Greater Michigan Construction Academy is proud to partner with Lead’s Mother/Son event. Time spent between a mother and her son is priceless. Doing so in a construction space provides hands-on experiences and confidence in a way many of them have not been subject to.”

The program aims to enhance communication skills, build confidence in STEM activities, and offer a valuable educational experience. Tickets are available for $25 for adults and $15 for children, which includes access to the event, STEM-building activities, dinner, and a take-home project. Ticket prices will increase by $5 on September 1. Tickets can be purchased at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/familyprograms/event/motherson. Scholarships are also available for those with financial constraints. For more information, contact Kelsey Snyder at kelsey@leadconfidently.org.
