SAGINAW, MI — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host a public open house to discuss an upcoming project to rebuild eastbound M-58 (State Street) from Avalon Avenue to M-84 (Bay Street) in Saginaw. The event will take place on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Saginaw City Hall Council Chambers at 1315 S. Washington Ave.
The open house will provide an opportunity for community members, city representatives, local businesses, and interested residents to review project details and speak directly with MDOT staff and contractors.
MDOT is investing approximately $13 million to rebuild 1.1 miles of M-58. The project includes hot-mix asphalt rebuilding, installation of new concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, signal upgrades, signs, landscaping, and pavement markings. In coordination with the City of Saginaw, additional improvements will be made to city sewers and water mains.
Construction will require a closure of eastbound M-58, with traffic detoured onto westbound M-58 (Davenport Avenue), which will temporarily operate as a two-way road with a center turn lane. Prep work, including signal updates and tree removal, is already underway. The traffic shift is expected to occur this spring, with the project scheduled for completion in spring 2026.
MDOT encourages all interested parties to attend. Individuals requiring mobility, visual, hearing, written, or other assistance for participation should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov at least five business days before the meeting.
