MyMichigan Health to consolidate leadership across four medical centers

MIDLAND, Mich. — MyMichigan Health will consolidate leadership across four of its mid-Michigan medical centers beginning Feb. 1, 2026, in an effort to streamline operations and strengthen systemwide coordination.

The change places the Midland, Alma, Clare and Mt. Pleasant medical centers under one president. System leaders said the unified model is intended to improve efficiency, support consistent care standards and better align services across the health system, which serves 26 counties.

“This is a purposeful change and it marks a new chapter for MyMichigan Health,” said Bryan Cross, Pharm.D., chief operating officer. He said the consolidated structure will help the system “streamline operations, ensure consistent quality of care, and promote a cohesive vision” while allowing teams to share best practices and respond more effectively to evolving community needs.

The transition expands a leadership approach already used elsewhere in the organization. MyMichigan previously combined oversight for its Gladwin and West Branch medical centers under president Ray Stover after the retirement of Bob McGrail. Another group — Saginaw, Standish, Tawas and Towne Centre — is led by president Mike Erickson.

As part of the latest reorganization, Chuck Sherwin, FACHE, will assume responsibility for the Alma, Clare and Mt. Pleasant medical centers in addition to his current role as president of MyMichigan Medical Center Midland. His expanded duties follow the retirement of Marita Hattem-Schiffman.

Cross said Sherwin’s background in nursing and long tenure with the system position him to support clinical and operational goals. “His leadership will bring new ideas, enhance patient experiences, and strengthen community partnerships,” Cross said.

Sherwin said the change will bring teams closer together and broaden collaboration across facilities. “It’s a big responsibility, and I don’t take it lightly,” he said.

Sherwin has worked for MyMichigan Health for 30 years, including leadership roles in Alpena and Midland. He said the system’s growth reflects its willingness to embrace change. “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional,” he said. “And I am so proud that this health system consistently chooses growth.”
