SAGINAW, MI – The City of Saginaw has announced a unique employment opportunity designed to shape the future of urban development in the region.

Officials are inviting applications for the position of Community Development Fellow, a role that will run from 2025 through 2026. The fellowship, which offers a $60,000 annual salary plus benefits, aims to strengthen the city’s planning and zoning efforts while promoting economic development and sustainability.

The selected fellow will report to Cassi Zimmerman, Saginaw’s Director of Planning and Economic Development, and will involve critical responsibilities such as enhancing organizational capabilities, supporting collaborative initiatives, and tackling barriers to local development. Zimmerman emphasized the importance of this position, stating, “Being chosen as a host city for this program is a tremendous honor. Saginaw has seen renewed interest from developers and a surge in economic vitality after years of challenges. We’ve invested significantly in public infrastructure and services to support this growth, and the Community Development Fellow will play a key part in continuing these advancements.”

The fellowship is part of a broader initiative led by the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) and funded with assistance from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). The city has been part of the state’s Redevelopment Ready Communities program since 2019 and recently renewed its certification, ensuring Saginaw remains well-positioned for future development.

Applications for the fellowship are open until November 18, 2024. Interested candidates can learn more and apply through CEDAM’s official portal.
